I mean it when I say I've been there.
You know that saying that you can’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle? It’s so true.
It is, but it’s hard to remember sometimes. I was there. I know how it feels to look at a successful business owner or blogger or influencer and think you’re never going to get to where they are.
And the truth is, you won’t, not exactly.
You will never be exactly where they are because you’re not on the same path.
And guess what? That’s totally okay.
Because you create your own path to success.
And I’m here to help you along the way.
Are you ready?
can often come from failure.
Believe it or not, there was a time in my life that I hadn’t ever heard the term blogging before. In fact, the first time someone showed me their blog I laughed and said “but why would anyone read it?” And the me today wants to go slap that silly girl that I was upside the head. Because whaaa?!?!
I’d lost my marbles.
Okay, not really. I just didn’t understand. But for some reason or another, it planted this seed.
This seed just sat there for a while. Just tucked away in a place that I forgot about until this one day.
I had headed to my 9-to-5 as usual and something just seemed off. You know what I mean. Sure enough, about 10 AM that morning I was told my services were no longer needed because they were eliminating my position and out the door I went.
I remember sitting in my car thinking “Oh my god, how did this happen? How do they not need me anymore? What am I going to do?”
So I headed home, pretty down on myself and was greeted by an unsympathetic (now ex) husband.
He blamed me for doing something wrong. Like I tried to lose my job. He told me I was just bringing him down with me. He told me that I had better figure it out and quick.
And over the next few days, that little seed about blogging that was put in my head long before that, came to the surface. That was the day I decided to start my first blog.
This isn't a fairytale ending... not exactly.
I realize it might have sounded like that for a minute… my bad.
So the idea to start this blog gets me super excited. But I knew nothing, I MEAN NOTHING about blogging. So I spent a few days Googling until I couldn’t possibly Google any more. By then I have the basics, and I know I want WordPress so that I can own it and then add content myself. So I hired a guy. And looking back, he spent 20 minutes setting up WordPress and creating a custom background image. That cost me hundreds of dollars I didn’t have.
That was it.
After I realized what I had paid for, I was determined to learn everything I could to create and manage my own website. I was never again going to overpay for such little work.
And then the blog. I had to figure out how to make it big. How to get eyeballs on it. Marketing – that’s what I did for a living so that part didn’t seem so hard. But with no budget? Oh my goodness, how was I going to do it all…
Is any of this starting to sound familiar?
Maybe not the specifics, but I’d bet that all of the chaos and uncertainty and scared excitement is totally where you’re at, or where you’ve been. So you write and write and promote and no one freakin’ comes and you’re ready to pull your hair out. WTF!
I wish I could tell you that I stuck to it and I made that blog an awesome success, but the truth is that blog sucked, and it had a niche that I wasn’t passionate about and after about 6 months I gave up on it.
And then started another.
And each of my blogs have taught me something along the way. Learning from failure is seriously the best way to learn sometimes. Because while it sucks, it sticks with you and you’re never, ever going to do it that way again.
And guess what?
Now I'm going to teach it all to you.
I don’t want you to have to go through all of the failure and mistakes that I went through. While, granted, through my failures I’ve been able to make thousands of dollars on all of my blogs (except for that first one), I want you to know that there is a better way.
Whenever I think back to that first blog, and hiring that guy to create it, I feel totally scammed, totally ripped off, and while I swore that day that it would never happen to me again, I’m going to make sure it doesn’t happen to you either.
